Family: Iridaceae Some Common names: american blue flag, dragon flower, flag lily, harlequin blueflag, liver lily, poison flag, water flag , water iris.... Some Common Uses: History shows the blue flag was a much used herb by Native American Indians. It served a purpose for dropsy, emetic and the leaves were used externally for sores and burns. Today it is used to detoxify the body as a mild laxative. It also has some properties as a hepatic, cathartic and depurative. Topically it is used in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis.
