Family: Labiatae Some Common Names: Carpenter’s Herb, middle comfrey, sicklewort, Common Bugle... Some Common Uses: Used as a sedative, astringent, and narcotic and some contraceptive effect. The plant is also used in coughs, bleeding from the lungs and for consumption. Also have some effects on overactive thyroid and accelerated heart beats. The whole plant has been used to treat hyperthyroidism and as a hypoglycemic. It is also used dried for making an infusion. The root has been chewed, a portion swallowed and the rest applied externally in the treatment of snakebites.
