Herb Terms Glossary

Bulbous
Resembling a bulb in shape; rounded or swollen: a bulbous nose; a bulbous stem base.
Botany Bearing bulbs or growing from a bulb.

Cordate 
 1. heart-shaped: a cordate shell. 
2. (of leaves) heart-shaped, with the attachment at the notched end.

Cyme
 1. an inflorescence in which the primary axis bears a single central or terminal flower that blooms first. 

Deciduous
 1. shedding the leaves annually, as certain trees and shrubs

Dioecious      
Having male flowers on one plant and female flowers on another plant of the same species. The holly and asparagus plants are dioecious

Drupe     
A simple fruit derived from a single carpel. A drupe usually contains a single seed enclosed by a hardened endocarendocarp, which often adheres closely to the seed within. In peaches, plums, cherries, and olives, a fleshy edible mesocarp surrounds the endocarp (the pit or stone). In the coconut, a fibrous mesocarp (the husk) surrounds the endocarp (the shell), while the white edible portion is the endosperm
